Commnity Guidelines :: An Anti-Racist Agenda

The Women's Center opposes all forms of oppression. We strive for gender equity and racial, social, and economic justice.

Today, 11.6% of white women, 26.4% of African American, and 24.4% of Latina women live in poverty. A woman of color in the United States is more than twice as likely to be poor as a white woman. Racism is oppressive to people of color and it dehumanizes white people. If we are to attain justice, confronting racism must be a focus of our justice agenda.

We understand that racism is insidious and that our entire society is indoctrinated with it. Often, racism plays out in subtle ways. As one manifestation of racism is challenged, another is revealed. For this reason, we must actively and openly confront racism - personally and organizationally.

Women's Center Anti-Racism Initiatives:
  • On-going anti-racism training for Board and Staff
  • White Women Against Racism (WWAR)
  • Anti-racism training for group facilitators
  • Women of Color Caucus
  • Anti-racism training for Women's Center volunteers
