The following describes the premises of the Women's Center and some of the programs and resources contained in different areas of the building. We hope this will assist women to access resources and understand what to expect in different parts of the building.

The Women's Center Premises
The Women's Center is located in a 3 story house. All three floors and the basement are used for Women's Center programming.

The first floor consists of the Helpline Staffer Office, living room, Resource Room, and kitchen. Except when meetings are scheduled in the living room, that space is available for women to relax, meet others, read, and engage in conversation. On the first floor, music is playing and newspapers and magazines are available for your perusal. You are welcome to prepare meals or snacks in the kitchen, as long as you clean up afterwards. On occasion, the kitchen is reserved for a cooking class or other activity. If you have a question or need assistance, please ask the staffer in the Helpline Staffer Office on the first floor.

The second floor contains staff offices, the Women of Action (WOA) Campaign Headquarters, and the childcare room. We welcome children and provide childcare during WC activities whenever possible.

The third floorcontains our library, archives, and two meeting rooms. When meetings are not in session, a third floor room may be reserved for a 2 hour period of time for women looking for a quiet space. The library is available, except when reserved, during all of our open hours. Arrangements must be made with the librarian to utilize the archives for research. To access the archives, ask the Helpline staffer for assistance.

The basement contains a meeting room, the Computer & Internet Access Lab, and a staff/intern office. You are welcome to sign in for computer access on the first floor. As many women need to concentrate without distractions while using the computers, the Computer/Internet Access Lab is quiet space. Music, conversation, cell phones, eating, and drinking are not allowed in the Computer Lab. The basement meeting room is reserved for meetings only. If you'd like to reserve a quiet room, please ask the staffer about reserving a room on the third floor.

Library (3rd floor) The Women's Center houses a library containing books about women's health, women's history, fiction/literature, reproductive rights, and more. The library also includes an extensive archival of the women's movement. Women are welcome to check out books and use the library to read and conduct research.
To checkout a book, please follow the instructions posted on the main desk in the library. The library is quiet space. For assistance with using the library, please see the Helpline Staffer.

Kitchen (1st Floor) Women are welcome to prepare meals in our kitchen, sit and have a cup of tea, or socialize. Women are welcome to any food and beverages in our refrigerator and pantry that do not have a person's name on it. When using the kitchen women are responsible for cleaning up after themselves. This includes washing dishes, cleaning kitchen surfaces used, throwing away/recycling trash, and labeling any food that you do not want to share with others.

Some Guidelines
  • Smoking, drugs, and the drinking of alcohol are not permitted in the WC.
  • While the Center encourages debate that leads to a broader understanding of issues and women - physical fighting, yelling, intimidating and threatening behavior is not tolerated.
  • The Center provides resources to many homeless women and understands the difficulty presented by the lack of storage space for homeless women. However, we do not have the capacity to provide storage. Personal items found on the premises will be put in the trash.
  • The Women's Center is not a shelter and cannot accommodate overnight visits for women. We cannot make exceptions.
  • Women utilizing the Women's Center have a right to their personal space. We ask that all women respect the privacy and limits of other women at the Center.
  • The Women's Center welcomes mothers and children. Please support mothers by respecting their boundaries with their children.
  • We encourage women to dress comfortably but fully at the Center. To protect the health of others and prevent injuries, the Center requires that women wear shoes, sandals, or boots.
