A Call to Action! Help us Keep the Doors Open

A Message from Our Board President
For 34 years, the Women’s Center has been the place where women found their voices.

Today, the Women’s Center faces its own silencing – the closing of our doors forever. The Women’s Center is in a financial crisis.

As we strive to meet the ever increasing demand for our unique programming and services, we confront a difficult economy and a challenging funding climate. Our board and staff members are implementing strategic plans to ensure that the Women’s Center thrives for years to come. However, our survival hinges on your support now more than ever.

I write to you today as the Board President who found her own voice at the Women’s Center five years ago. Moving from Arkansas to Boston, the Women’s Center quickly became my base. The connections I made at the Women’s Center continue to profoundly shape my life.

There are so many of us whose lives have been forever changed by the Women’s Center. And there are thousands more to come, whose livelihood will depend on the existence of programs and services only the Women’s Center can provide.

We are all pillars of this vibrant organization. To survive, we must stand together - strong, courageous, and unyielding.

Please send a check today. The Women’s Center is counting on you.

Many thanks,
Martina Bouey

A Center of Hope
When I think about where I would be if the Women’s Center wasn’t open, my heart breaks.

I was homeless for two years, and during that time the Women’s Center was my home. Before I found the Women’s Center, I would go from shelter to shelter, bench to bench, looking for a place to sleep - a place to be safe.

From the moment I walked through the Women’s Center doors, I was welcomed.

The staff helped me search for jobs and shelter. I was invited to rest in one of the quiet rooms at the Women’s Center. I could make my own hot meal in the Women’s Center kitchen. These simple tasks brought me such comfort.

Having free computer and internet access to let my kids know that ‘mama is okay,’ when they were so scared for me, was invaluable.

The Women’s Center became my salvation. With the support and encouragement of the staff, I was able to find an apartment, get off the streets, and begin building my life in a positive direction.

Now the center is in trouble, and I think about the other women at the Center who are in similar positions as me. Where will they go? Who will help them find shelter or tell them of how to get housing vouchers or how to get free counseling? Who will listen to their stories as the staff at the Women’s Center listened to mine?

The Women’s Center must continue to thrive, live, and breathe hope into the lives of others. It gave me hope and a chance to start again. The Women’s Center must continue to do so for the many women who need it.

Thank you,
Blue
